In ADVICE + THOUGHTS

Throughout my 25 years, I’ve been raised, hired, coached, mentored, and inspired by a number of incredibly successful women who have all made a huge impact on both my personal and professional life. I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by such driven role models who all possess some of the same daily habits that contribute to their success.

Contrary to popular belief, confident, chic, and successful women aren’t superhuman, they’re just well-prepared, strategic, goal-driven, and motivated. Here are 10 habits that I believe have served me and the women I look up to when it comes to getting things done, making goals happen, and achieving that it-girl status you’re capable of:

Audrey

They tackle their mornings.

Wake up early to get things done. Each night before bed, make a to-do list of the things you want to accomplish the next day in order from most important to least important.

For them, excuses do not exist.

Hold yourself accountable. No successful leader or entrepreneur makes excuses for their mistakes or short comings, they make things happen regardless of the situation or circumstance. If you make excuses for why you can’t do something or how the conditions aren’t right, you can sit back and watch someone else do it – because they will.

They are strategic and specific with their time.

Your time is extremely valuable. Stay organized and plan your schedule so you’re not always rushing. Plus. you’ll feel more prepared when it comes to completing tasks. Being prompt & professional is very important. Making a check-list for each day will change your life – in this day and age, being a multi-tasker is a must!

They are confident.

It takes confidence to know what you want and to have the courage to make it happen. Believe in yourself and have faith in your abilities – because if you don’t, who will? Even if you aren’t feeling extremely confident about something – fake it till you make it – you’ll surprise yourself. Be your own person, be a trend-setter, say how you feel, and don’t be intimidated by other people (they’re JUST people).

They don’t skip out on exercise (or sleep).

It’s 5:00 and you just worked a long day and the last thing you want to do is go to the gym, right? Fitting physical activity into your day is more important than you think and can significantly help when it comes to eliminating stress, clearing your mind, and refreshing your body. The same thing with sleep – I cannot stress the importance of a restful night of sleep enough when it comes to your performance the next day! PS – a glass of wine and bubble baths help significantly with stress too : )

They embrace risk.

If you want to achieve great things, you have to do what other people are not willing to do – or are afraid to do. If you’ve set your goals and expectations high, you can’t be afraid to fail. And failure will happen, it’s inevitable at one point or another. True growth comes from picking yourself up after each failure and learning how to bounce back – do not take ‘no’ for an answer.

They seek an organic mentor.

When it comes to work, everyone needs advice. Find someone you admire, trust, and respect. The best mentoring happens without the formal label of “mentoring”. Mine? My grandma, mom, and a previous coach.

They’re kind, gracious, and dependable.

Understand the important of sincerity, the impact it makes on other people’s lives, and how it affects the most important relationships you’ll ever have. And live by this quote in business: “Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how you leave others after an experience with you is your trademark“. This holds true across all career paths.

They’re constantly looking for inspiration and ways to better themselves.

The key to growth is to never stop learning and challenging yourself. Travel the world and collect an abundance of life experiences. These experiences open your mind and keep you curious. Aim to understand people who come from a completely different background than you. Jump on opportunities that are outside your comfort zone.  Read every day, continue to pursue your hobbies, and surround yourself with people you admire and aim to be like.
