You all know Kentucky has a special place in my heart, so when Ale-8-One reached out to see if I wanted to partner on a summer cocktail feature I was so excited! Ale-8 has been bottled in Winchester, KY since 1926 and is the only soft drink invented in Kentucky still in existence.. and they just celebrated their 90th anniversary yesterday! It tastes a bit like ginger ale mixed with lemon-lime soda – the perfect light and summery drink mixer.

My roommates and I all graduated from UK, so I thought it would be fitting to put together a southern-inspired cocktail to bring a little bit of Kentucky to Chicago! My little sister helped helped me put the recipe together – I love having her home from college for the summer (!!)

This ‘bracing spritz’ cocktail is an easy drink for hot nights out on the back porch with friends – it’s light, bubbly and a little fruity. Plus, it’s bright and colorful!  Here’s the how-to:

Bracing Spritz Cocktail:

-1.5 oz of Aperol

-Ale 8

-Orange slice

-Prosecco (we used La Marca!)

Steps: Fill glasses with ice (we used rocks glasses). Add a 1.5 oz of Aperol and then fill the glass about half way up with Ale 8. Pour in a little bit of prosecco to make it a little bit more bubbly, then garnish with an orange slice!

Cheers!

(Ale-8 is now expanding into Indiana + Illinois (get it at Kroger, Marsh, Meijer, Walmart or Big Red Liquor). Keep up to date with all things Ale-8-One, including one of a kind recipes from they kitchen and bar, by following them on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.)
