Black Lace Gown from Bloomingdales 30% off (wearing Petite XS with minor alterations – runs a little big) | Black Glitter Box Clutch from Sole Society | Oversized Black Faux Fur Coat  | Swarovski Crystal Bella Mini Earrings

I usually stick to my go-to my favorite pinky/fuchsia lip colors for most occasions, but during the holidays there’s nothing like a classic red lip. It’s an easy way to add a festive touch to a simple black dress you’re wearing to that Christmas party, or to add a pop of color to any outfit. (PS how gorgeous is this black lace gown? Perfect for black tie weddings!).

3 steps for the perfect holiday-red lip

1. Moisturize

I’ve been using this lip balm I found in one of my L’Occitane advent calendars this year and it’s my favorite  ever. The texture is so creamy, light, and long-lasting. Also – drink plenty of water and use an overnight lip treatment.

2. Liner

Regardless of what color I’m wearing, I always line my lips before applying my lipstick. It helps define the shape of my lips and makes it easier to fill them in. Liner can also be used to make your lips look a little bigger if you want to exaggerate the the shape a bit. I do this underneath my bottom lip. For red – I use Urban Decay color: 69 available here.

3. Lipstick

I’m not usually one to purchase liquid lipstick, but I tried Physicians Formula’s new Healthy Lip Velvet Liquid Lipstick and was hooked. The texture is reach, creamy, and mouse-like that lasts throughout the whole night. The satin matte effect won’t dry out your lips and the avocado oil hydrates and moisturizes them while you’re wearing it. I’m wearing the ‘Fight Free Red-icals‘ shade and it’s the perfect red for the holidays. It comes in 13 high-impact colors and is only $7.95! Available at CVS and most drugstores. Buy it online here.
