You might’ve seen me mention on Instagram & Snapchat that I’ve been working on a design project with The RoomPlace to give Nani’s master bedroom a fresh update. I’ve always had a love for interior decorating, so when The RoomPlace reached out and asked to partner on this project I couldn’t wait to get started! (PS, just added a bunch of home decor items to the SHOP tab at the top of my site!).
I wanted to create a beautiful space for Nani to have all to herself. A place for her to read at night, enjoy the beautiful lake view in the morning, and drink her coffee while relaxing in a comfortable and luxurious ‘happy place’. You may have read in some of my previous posts that Nani lost her husband of 54 years last Spring, and today would’ve been their 55th wedding anniversary. When I started to put ideas together for the room, she kept telling me how happy Grandpa would be to know she had a beautiful new room to be her ‘safe haven‘.
It was an easy space to work with because it’s surrounded by windows with lots of natural light, tall ceilings with sky lights, a fireplace, a majestic bedframe, and a walk-out patio that overlooks the lake. She told me Grandpa used to look out their patio view and joke to her “you know what, I like this place, let’s rent it again next year“.
I started the design process by selecting pieces from TRPs collection. They have a variety of high-end looking products but at a very affordable price point. I wanted the space to be transitional yet classic, feminine, and sophisticated. The color palette I was working with was light neutrals, mother of pearl accents, faint metallic finishes, and rich fabrics. We traded her outdated laminate bedside pieces and dresser for a gorgeous champagne & mirror-detailed dresser with matching bedside tables. I picked a gorgeous antique inspired ivory & taupe 8 x 10 rug with silver accents that tied the room together perfectly. (All products used in the room are linked at the bottom of this post!).

I incorporated a few of Nani’s favorite things to make the room really personal.
She loves daytime, sunlight, and well-lit spaces, so I used matching mother of pearl bedside table lamps and hung rectangular champagne nailhead mirrors behind them to reflect the light throughout the room. The tall mirrors helped to utilize empty wall space and emphasize the tall ceilings.
You can never have too many throw pillows, so I loaded her bed up with velvet & silk pillows and found elegant bedding in soft tones. Like I said, Nani’s a neutral gal – I can count the number of times on one hand that I’ve seen her wearing anything other than black, white, or beige! The faux fur throw added a cozy touch for winter.
She loves metallic accents and ever since I was a little girl I’ve known about Nani’s love for angels. We kept her beautiful angel painting and hung it above her desk, and nested one on her mantel next to the metallic mosaic vases.
I styled a few other decorative things throughout the room – feminine pearls, beaded pillows, faux florals, acrylic accents, and my favorite ivory faux fur pillow from my sweet friends at Akin Design Studio! She’s the most glamorous 78 year old woman I know so she needed nothing short of the most glamorous room : )
