Birdies Slippers: The Warbler | Glamour Givenchy in Grayscale Triptych Art

I didn’t used to watch Sex and the City until this year. I’m really weird and hardly ever watch movies or TV, so the fact that I’ve now watched every single episode of this show is sayin a lot. My best friend Linds always told me how much I’d love SATC when we were in college, so when I first moved to Chicago I started watching all the episodes from the beginning before I went to bed.

I love it because it’s so relatable for women our age and the life lessons each character teaches you in every season are so good.  I love how Carrie openly and honestly presents her flaws and personal screw-ups that we all deal with at some point. Hoping my favorite quotes from the show inspire you to live a bit more like Carrie Bradshaw..with quick-wit, confidence, an independent attitude, and with a light hearted mindset when it comes to life and love 🙂

Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back.

Life gives you lots of chances to screw up which means you have just as many chances to get it right.

Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course we wouldn’t fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it’s comforting to know that the ones you love are always in your heart…”

Somewhere out there is another little freak who will love us and understand us and kiss our three heads and make it all better.”

I admit it’s tempting to wish for the perfect boss, or the perfect parent, or the perfect outfit, but the best anyone of us can do is not quit. Play the hand we’ve been given, and accessorize the outfit we’ve got.”

And finally, the most important break up rule: no matter who broke your heart, or how long it takes to heal, you’ll never go through it, without your friends.”

That’s the thing about needs. Sometimes when you get them met, you don’t need them anymore.”

He was like the flesh and blood equivalent of a DKNY dress…. you know it’s not your style, but it’s right there, so you try it on anyway.”

Friendships don’t magically last 40 years. You have to invest in them. It’s like your savings: You don’t expect to wake up one day when you’re old and find a big bucket of money waiting there.”

I got to thinking about fate. That crazy concept that we’re not really responsible for the course our lives take. That it’s all predestined, written in the stars.”

Sometimes we need to stop analyzing the past, stop planning the future, stop figuring out precisely how we feel, stop deciding exactly what we want, and just see what happens.”

Otherwise, how do you bounce back when reality batters your belief system and love does not, as promised, conquer all? Is hope a drug we need to go off of, or is it keeping us alive?”

Eventually all the pieces fall into place . . . until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment, and know that everything happens for a reason.”

But the most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”

I’m someone who is looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love.”

When you’re young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then, you grow up and learn to be cautious. You could break a bone or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don’t leap at all because there’s not always someone there to catch you. And in life, there’s no safety net. When did it stop being fun and start being scary?

Maybe some women aren’t meant to be tamed. Maybe they need to run free until they find someone just as wild to run with.”
