Game Day Tailgate2015-09-102016-09-07https://oliviarink.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/logo-olivia-rink.pngWelcome to Olivia Rinkhttps://oliviarink.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/LLS_Tailgate-80.jpg200px200px
I’ve never been much of a football fan and I admit that the thought “what am I gonna wear” crosses my mind waaay before “who are we playing”…BUT, I do like to think I know a thing or two about dressing for the game, so I’ve put together a few styling tips & tailgating ideas for game day!
It’s definitely more comfortable to show up to games wearing a jersey or college t-shirt, but it’s always more fun to get creative and put some thought into your game day look. If you’re hosting a tailgate or even a pregame (or any kind of party) – you HAVE to check out White Elephant Designs. Their cute entertainment wear was perfect for my little Notre Dame tailgate (for those of you who don’t know, I live 10 minutes away from Notre Dame!). Some of my best friends were in town for the ND home opener this past weekend, so we decided to celebrate with a little brunch tailgate that involved mimosas, monograms, and Krispy Kreme football doughnuts(!!).
The Set Up:
I spent my ‘crazy tailgating years’ in college cheering on the field, so this was my mid-20-something idea of a pretty chill and classy tailgate (without the beer bongs and corn hole) ..haha. White Elephant designs provided the adorable drinkware, serving tray, and napkins. Use code LOVELYLITTLESTYLE20 for 20% off everything on their site!
This special occasion called for mimosas – pretty fitting considering Veuve is Notre Dame colors 🙂 Sun flowers, cookies, banana bread, fruit, and football doughnuts for the win!
I got to spend the day with three of my favorite people – Lauren, Linds, and Missy. Lauren is usually behind the camera, Linds is living in Kentucky (college roomie & teammate), and Missy (friends since high school) is all the way out in California. The older you get, the more you realize who your close friends are and distance doesn’t seem to matter too much.
The Outfit:
All four years of college I had to wear the same thing to every game – uniform, turtle neck, bow.. so it’s GREAT to finally get the chance to put together cute game day outfits! Notre Dame’s colors are Navy and Gold (and green for the Irish), so I styled these four items from Urban Outfitters: Navy Dress, Mustard Yellow Sweater, Black Cross Body Bag, Bangles. And how about these amazing gold tassel earrings from White Elephant Designs?!
*If your school colors are extremely bold/bright (LSU, Florida, Tennessee, etc), tone them down by adding neutral elements to your outfit – grey cardigan, leather boots, jean jacket. No one wants to look like a game day float.
*Choose the right footwear. If you’re like me, heels are always the answer. But, I do admit to keeping a pair of Keds in the car and changing later that night. Riding boots are a must for this season – options here.
*Leather looks good with everything this season. Add a leather jacket, cross body, boots, etc.
*Check the weather! It rained all morning and then it was a million degrees that day. I originally planned to wear a blouse under my dress, but instead wore a sweater around the waist for later that night.
*Bring the right bag – most likely all you’ll need is your phone, money, cards, keys, and lipstick. A big bag or clutch will be annoying to carry around all day – a crossbody is perfect and you don’t have to worry about it.
*Wear your team’s colors in creative ways: nail color, earrings, scarves, tights
*Tassel Earrings in your school’s colors (use code lovelylittlestyle20 for 20% off):
Olivia! Your style is always so on point! I have been following you for a while now and every post is just so awesome! You are such an inspiration. Love your work. I cheer at my school, so I totally get the whole uniform thing and never wearing "game day" clothes. haha! Super cute post.
Love the outfit! Not so sure it send the 'I'm here to watch football' message but it's cute nonetheless. Would be great for someone working that can't sport a jersey or team t-shirt.

As a Notre Dame fan myself, (I currently attend SMC) I am definitely going to try these tips out. Thanks Olivia!
