In FASHION, TRAVEL

It’s been a crazy week here at New York Fashion Week, but also one of the best weeks of my entire career that’s reminded me there is nothing better than pursuing what you love. I’ve had so much fun running around to shows, events, meetings, parties and shooting content with Alicia. Shooting in NYC is like a playground, there are endless options for photoshoot locations! Thank you guys SO MUCH for all your sweet messages and comments on my posts this past week. It’s so rewarding to read through all of your comments after all the work and passion that we put into each styled shoot. Believe me, you have no idea what your words mean to me! 🙂 I’ve felt so loved reading through everything, especially the messages when I reached 200K last week, woohoo!!

This year, I was given the opportunity to take on NYFW with Trunk Club Women. Trunk Club is a personal styling service that matches you up with a highly skilled stylist who works with you to: create unique outfits you love or even to revamp your entire wardrobe completely.  After the selection and styling process is finalized, a ‘trunk’ full of items is shipped right to your doorstep, where you’re able to try them all on in the comfort of your home, keep what you want, and send back what you don’t. You are then only charged for the items you keep!

I spent the days leading up to fashion week working with my stylist, Kelsey, on 4 outfits we styled specifically for various shows, meetings, events, and photoshoots at NYFW. We schedule a styling appointment at Trunk Club’s Chicago Clubhouse where we talked about what I had scheduled for the week and the types of outfits I was looking for. Because most of you probably have no idea what really goes on at New York Fashion Week (I had NO clue before I started attending), I wanted to take you behind the scenes to show you the wardrobe styling that goes into a single day at NYFW.

6:00 Wake up + Shoot

Get up + get ready for a sunrise shoot for outfit #1,  because lighting is everything when it comes to photography. 9 times out of 10 we don’t just get lucky with the lighting, shooting is usually very strategically planned out to make for the best final image. During fashion week, we woke up at the crack of dawn to utilize the early hours of morning light to shoot content for my blog and Instagram, while keeping the entire afternoon open for other responsibilities.

12:00 Lunch Meetings

After morning shoots, I’d change into a different out outfit for lunch meetings and afternoon events. For a fashion blogger, networking during fashion week is so important. So while shooting content for my blog/Instagram and attending shows is important, there’s nothing quite as crucial as taking time to meet in person to talk to brands about partnership opportunities.

This all pink look was my favorite outfit of the week I put together with my Trunk Club stylist. We wanted to focus this look around these epic pink jeweled booties by Jeffery Campbell. We had so much fun putting this one together and I felt like it captured my style so perfectly! The pink leather skirt gave the outfit a super feminine look and the faux fur cardigan made it playful and fun. (PS – you have to check out Cha Cha Matcha for an iced latte in NYC, it’s the cutest place with delicious lattes!)

3:00 Afternoon Shows:

The fashion shows at NYFW are exactly what you’d imagine: the room goes dark, the music is loud and epic, there’s flashing show lights and camera flashes, and then the skyscraper models covered in dreamy gowns make their appearance as A-list celebrities watching the show from the front row. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced. For one of my busiest days at the shows, I put together this look with my stylist that was centered around this sophisticated Veronica Beard she picked. Mustard yellow is a big color for Spring 2018, so these high-waisted trouser pants were perfect. Paired with a velvet crop top and a quilted Chanel, I loved the look off this classic and business-chic outfit.

Side Note:

Two of my favorite shows during the week were: Oscar de la Renta and the Kate Spade Fall 2018 presentation. Kate Spade was incredible for obvious reasons – it’s a brand I’ve loved and worn for so many years.  But Oscar de la Renta felt like a complete dream. The moment I walked into the building my heart starting pounding – it was such an incredible feeling to walk in there alone and sit among some of the most recognized names in fashion to view the designs from one of the most iconic designers of all time! I was sitting right by Dakota Fanning, Maren Morris, and Nicky Hilton (obviously trying to play it cool but mostly just freaking out). Exhibit A (hiiii):

6:00 Shoots + Events

Right before sunset is also always a great opportunity to shoot. The lighting is beautiful and I’ve gotten through most of my meetings and shows at this point. This sporty chic outfit with bold red stiletto booties was the most unique look my Trunk Club stylist and I put together for NYFW. I loved how the different elements came together here – the sporty bomber, feminine bodycon dress, and edgy stilettos. We shot this right in the heart of Times Square about a half a block away from Hotel Edison, where we stayed the entire week. I absolutely loved the location, service, and restaurants inside the hotel, and views from the room we stayed in! I usually stay in Soho or Tribeca when I’m in NY, so it was so cool to stay further north in the heart of all the chaos.

8:00 After Parties + Dinners

One of my favorite things about the long days at fashion week is when you can unwind and just get together to network with your favorite PR girls you’re constantly long-distance e-mailing with or fellow bloggers you hardly ever get to actually hang out with in real life! The last outfit I styled with Trunk Club was a going-out look for dinner and after parties. I wore this sequin blazer with knee-high boots and a gold dotted blazer for a dinner with the TRESemmĂ© team at Nomo Soho. We had picked out a few other options to pair with this blazer, but both agreed the sequin top was the extra element this outfit needed!
