Wedding dress codes come with a lot of stipulations, so I’m helping out today with a little ‘wedding guest attire shop‘ full of all my favorite dress picks for a spring/summer wedding. Scroll through my list at the end of this post for plenty of options to wear to anything from a backyard wedding to a black tie affair!
And just to make sure you’re playing it safe, here’s a little cheat sheet for the do’s and don’ts of wedding attire. The essential rules of what to wear to a wedding that your grandmother may have passed along to you are still applicable, but with each year these rules all seem to be a bit more open to individual expression, so have fun with your outfit!
- NO white! Or cream…or ivory…you get the point.
- Keep it classy. Conservative is always better at weddings (knee length-ish / high necklines).
- No wrinkles in your outfit! [This little thing] has been a life saver for wedding season/life in general.
- Wear shoes you can actually walk (and dance) in.
- Nothing too flashy. Not too short or too tight.. eyes on the bride (not you).
- Floral prints are always welcome.
- Wearing black is now acceptable (Nani says it used to be a symbol of mourning but now it’s a safe bet so I trust that..)
- Black Tie? A chic cocktail dress or a long evening gown in a dark or neutral color.
- Black Tie Optional? A long dress or a formal cocktail-length dress.
