One of my favorite events of the year is just around the corner – Keeneland’s fall race meet in Lexington. It’s a month-long tradition of horse racing, fine dressing, and socializing. As far as the betting goes – I usually put $5 on the horse with the best name.. I’m bringing Chris with me next Saturday, so I have a feeling that strategy won’t fly this year 😉 I’m partnering with Calypso Boutique in Lexington to show you two great dress options for one of my favorite Kentucky traditions. You can use code OLIVIA15 for 15% off your order.
I love going to Keeneland in the springtime, but there’s just something about Keeneland in the fall when the trees start to change colors and the air is chilly. The fashion for this time of year is also more fun because of all the different ways you can incorporate fall/winter accessories with southern-style dresses. Because the weather doesn’t exactly feel fall-ish yet, for today’s Keeneland fashion inspiration I left out furs, tights, and scarves, etc. – but towards the end of the month (and closer to the Breeders’ Cup!) you can get a little more creative with layering and accessorizing to keep warm and look chic.
Dress One: Take Notice Dress (wearing size small) Something with 3/4 or full length sleeves is ideal for this time of year. Bright colored fabric and bold patterns are always acceptable in the South. I love how the bottom of the dress almost looks like a Kentucky horse fence!
>>The Accessories<<
Leather Riding Boots To make your outfit more formal/feminine, wear a pair of riding boots with a heel. These are from last year, but here is a similar pair I love.
Caramel Leather Clutch from J. Crew – add your monogram for $10 extra! (25% off with code SHOPFALL) – practical, room-y, and easy to carry. This frees up your other hand for carrying your mint julep or Keeneland breeze around 🙂
A braided leather beltto define your waist and compliment your other leather accessories. (Petite tip: this dress was a little big on me, so the belt around the waist made it look WAY more flattering)
Statement earringsfor a metallic accent and to tie in the purple from the dress. [Click here to see where I find a lot of my favorite earrings]. And it doesn’t hurt to match your lipstick to the dress 🙂
Gold Wrist Accessories – add a classic chain link bracelet & chunky gold watch to complete your outfit. This is one of my favorite watches.
Love these outfits! I've never been to a horse race, but I really want to!
